Reuse and Restore

2 August 2024 | Cabinet Handles, Cupboard Handles, Trends,

At French Furniture Fittings, we’re all about making the most of what you already have. Our range of high quality fittings help you reskin your old furniture to your current tastes, or to save all-important money in your refitting budget. All of our handles are built to last and look fabulous in the right setting, ensuring that your imagination need not be limited by your wallet.

But – everyone is entitled to change their mind once in a while.

Find a new home for your fittings

Thanks to the modular way in which we think about kitchens and home furnishings, all of our cabinet knobs and handles have more than one use. This means rethinking your choices is easy – you’re not stuck with one design you have to start again with. It keeps things fresh and makes for endless iterations of your favoured hardware.

There is a consideration here however – what to do with all the handles you just took off? Well, you’re in luck. Below we take a look at some good uses for spare handles, knobs and fittings.

A Jewellery rack

Replace your stuffy old jewellery box with a jewellery rack! Suspend your necklaces, bracelets and earrings from some spare handles, keeping them out on display, close at hand and guaranteed not to tangle. While it seems eccentric, a good jewellery rack is exceptionally hard to find, and fashioning one yourself can often be the best option. The perfect weekend project.

Hooks around the house

Whether for coats, ornaments, tea towels or pictures, you can never have too many hooks! Repurpose our cabinet knobs for a convenient and beautiful looking hanger, or even create a set from a handful of fittings. Free your workspace and keep everything tidy.

Refresh & reuse

The beauty of buying your hardware separately means that it is not bespoke fitted to a particular piece. This allows for endless customisation within your chosen space. You can reuse your handles on a different piece of furniture or in a different room, or you can refresh a much loved cabinet with brand new hardware. This extends the life of much-loved pieces, saves money and is better for the environment too!

Recontextualise!

A change is as good as a holiday! That piece of furniture that has been sitting unloved in your kitchen or hallway – why not try it in the living room? Freestanding units such as drawers and sideboards are as useful in one room as another and can be repurposed for a huge range of uses. A quick change of fittings and it’s almost as if it’s a new piece altogether. Turn clothes drawers into toolboxes, workbenches into kitchen storage. Experiment and think outside the box – unless it’s broken, it may be worth your while to keep it.

In the garden

Taking your inside outside is a great way to extend the life of both your furniture and your fittings. Our range of handles, as well as being elegant additions to your household design, can make for useful gardening frames, outdoor decorations or craft projects. Made of robust materials and by nature decorative, they give you the chance to get creative and really make your outdoor space your own, whatever size it is.

Don’t be afraid of mismatching

Experimentation. Customisation. We hold these two words dear to our heart at FFF. While we are huge fans of a consistent aesthetic, having custom fittings means that you can try things that high street stores simply don’t let you do. Mix vintage and modern or raw and polished surfaces for a truly individual look. And, if it doesn’t work for you, it’s a relatively easy fix to try something else.

Put your imagination to work and you’ll find a huge number of uses for our kitchen fittings. Revamp that room, spice up that cabinet or finish that craft project you swore you’d finish. Our beautifully designed hardware is perfect for giving you that little bit of inspiration or the new idea you were looking for.
