How I Design Cabinet Knobs and Handles

30 September 2025 | Cabinet Handles, Guides,

Whilst we don’t design all of our products, sometimes there is nobody producing exactly what we are looking for and, as Plato famously said, necessity is the mother of invention.

Our Products

Designing cabinet knobs and handles, for me is the most fun part of the business, it’s a chance to create something unique. I draw inspiration from all kinds of places – it could be an exhibit in a museum, a motorway bridge or from chatting with kitchen designers and customers. These conversations often spark new ideas and help me understand exactly what people want in their kitchens.

We aim to offer unique, high-quality products that can’t be found elsewhere. Our goal is to create designs that stand out, but in a simple, elegant way. I prefer clean lines and bold shapes avoiding complicated, overly frilly details. There’s beauty in simplicity and I believe that a striking design doesn’t need to be overdone.

The Creative Process: From Idea to Product

My design process usually starts with doodles on a scrap of paper – it may be while I’m on a long flight or spending a quiet evening at home. Once I have a rough idea, I create initial technical drawings with key dimensions.

These sketches are sent to the manufacturer, who then turns them into detailed drawings. After that, they create a prototype on a 3D printer, which I inspect and possibly tweak as needed.

Once given the green light they can crack on
with making the final product in solid brass or zinc.

From start to finish, the whole process takes about nine months – interestingly, the same time it takes to make a baby! It’s a long process, but seeing the final product on our customers’ kitchen drawers and cupboard doors is always worth it. The aim is to create something that will help make any home feel just a little bit more special.

The Athena Knob

The Athena Knob was inspired by an Ancient Greek goblet displayed in a museum.

Its rounded profile and gently flared edges echo the vessel’s elegant form, translating the timeless curves of classical design into a modern, functional detail.

The Bath Bridge Handle

The Bath Bridge Handle takes its inspiration from a motorway bridge just north of Bath. What might seem like an ordinary structure reveals a striking geometry when reimagined in miniature.

Its strong lines and subtle curves have been refined into a handle that transforms an everyday reference into a piece of understated elegance.

The Bordeaux Knob

The Bordeaux Knob was created in response to conversations with kitchen designers, who sought a traditional look with a backplate at an affordable price.

Many distinctive designs are admired for their beauty but remain out of reach — the Bordeaux balances character, tradition, and affordability in one piece.
