Bring Spring Into Your Kitchen

27 June 2024 | Guides, Trends,

The season of showers, sunshine and new life coming through – Spring is here! This gives you new options for kitting out your kitchen. Moving away from the grey skies and dark days of winter means you can spend more time outside and less time sheltering from the weather. One thing that doesn’t change season-to-season? The kitchen is the most important part of your house, and likely where you and your family will spend much of your time.

If you feel the joy of spring and want to lend your kitchen some appropriate touches, there are some simple ways to achieve it. All it takes is a little imagination, a vision of what you’re looking for and, of course, an eye for the perfect finish.

Lighter tones

If you’re feeling so inclined, springtime is the perfect time to redecorate. The longer evenings and brighter weather give a more pleasing look in themselves, and might make you see your kitchen in a new light.

If you’ve been thinking of giving your kitchen a new lick of paint, the warmer spring weather not only makes it easier, it suggests a colour palette to work with too! Light greens and blues, pastels and ivory tones all give that fresh impression that the season invites so readily. It doesn’t have to be the whole lot either – refurbish your cupboard doors with new kitchen handles or paint a feature wall to give the whole room a brand new lease of life.

Natural materials

Using natural materials on your counters and cupboards can help to bring the natural world inside. Varnished wood or stone not only looks beautiful, but can be used to give a harmonious finish to your workspace when used properly.

Further to this, choosing accessories and fittings with an aged patina or a slightly vintage look can help with the effect. Alternatively, add some modern fittings to nail the Scandi-inspired finish.

Perhaps you’re not ready to start ripping out and replacing kitchen units? Or maybe you’re not lucky enough to have access to a garden? In these cases, a few well-chosen house plants can be the perfect solution. Known and proven to enhance mood, and undeniably easy on the eye, houseplants can be the perfect finishing touch. Just remember to water them now and then!

Find a place to put your clutter

If you’re looking for that “fresh air” feeling, getting your workspaces free of clutter can work surprisingly well. All houses need “stuff”, of course, and we don’t mean a finish fit for a showhome or magazine photoshoot. Simply giving your utensils a home and keeping your sides free of unnecessary stuff can make a dingy space into a gleaming one.

Spring cleaning is a well-known phrase for a reason, and this is often the time of year where our homes can be cleared out for the year ahead. This definitely applies to a kitchen, which can be the centre point for everything happening in the household. Take some time to find some space for the things you use and to throw away what you don’t – you’ll be amazed what a difference it makes.

Let your accessories do the talking

Needless to say, French Furniture Fittings think that your choice of fittings and accessories can make all the difference to your kitchen. The final effect depends on your ability to choose the right finishing touches, which luckily we have in abundance in our range.

Statement hardware can be a great way to spice up a simple finish. For example, the Bartram kitchen handles in their burnished metal are a stunning and subtle accent. In another direction, the MKN collection brings the decorative arts into your kitchen, with a range of knobs inspired by mosaic work of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. These beautiful hammered metal fastenings bring a hand-crafted intricacy to your cupboards and drawers, working wonderfully with lighter colours.

Adapt your menu accordingly

While winter is all about long, slow cooking and hearty fare, spring is a time to let lighter flavours come to the forefront. Spring vegetables, lighter soups and even salads are all great ways to make use of the seasonal bounty. The time to be spending hours preparing food has passed, in favour of fresher and less labour-intensive recipes. Those cast iron casserole pans and roasting pans may still come in handy, but the need to warm up at the end of the day is getting less and less important!

Give yourself some time to spend with family or doing the things you like to do, and freshen up your space to make it that much more pleasurable. Let our range of kitchen accessories inspire you to give your hearth the makeover it deserves.
